A simple way to add a strong, reusable metal thread to plastic and 3D-printed parts. This brass heat set insert melts neatly into a correctly sized hole, giving a machine screw something more dependable to bite into than bare plastic.
Why it works
- Creates a durable metal thread in plastic and 3D-printed parts
- Allows parts to be assembled and taken apart repeatedly without wearing out the plastic
- Knurled outer surface grips the surrounding material once it cools
- Helps reduce stripped threads compared with screws driven directly into printed plastic
Installation
Place the insert into a correctly sized hole, then use a heated tool such as a soldering iron to press it into position. The brass softens the surrounding plastic as it moves in, then locks firmly in place as the plastic cools and hardens.
